Flagstaff's First Dementia Friendly Restaurant

1899 Bar & Grill is proud to be the first dementia friendly restaurant in Flagstaff. We partnered with the Northern Arizona Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance to train our staff and rethink the dining experience for guests living with dementia and the people who care for them. That means clear signage throughout the restaurant, a quiet and comfortable seating area, and a bold, simple menu with fewer choices, so ordering dinner feels easy instead of overwhelming.

Safe Dining

A diagnosis shouldn't take away a night out. Dining together is one of life's everyday joys, and guests living with dementia deserve a place where they can share a meal with family and feel welcome doing it. With dementia cases expected to double by 2050, we believe restaurants have a real role to play in building a more inclusive community. We hope 1899 is just the start, and that more Flagstaff restaurants join us in creating their own dementia friendly programs.

Convenient Seating

Dementia friends are welcome any time we're open. That said, we know a busy dining room isn't always the best fit, so if you'd like a calmer visit, our slower hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 3 to 6 pm. Just let us know when you arrive and we'll seat you somewhere that feels more private, with a clear view of the exits and restrooms.

You can make a reservation and we'll have a table ready for you.
